Oil debris monitoring is the most reliable method of detecting impending failure of bearings and gears used in gas turbine engines and helicopter gearboxes. The basic technology a magnetic sensor strategically located in the oil system to capture wear debris particles released from failing bearings and gears. The sensors may be manually inspected magnetic chip collectors or remotely monitored electronic chip detectors that send a warning to the cockpit "chip light". Advanced digital fuzz suppression systems eliminate nuisance alarms.
