Prize for Innovation
On October 29, 2001, Vibro-Meter SA (a Meggitt company) was awarded the prestigious Prize for Innovation by the Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.
Every two years, the Canton of Fribourg* searches for companies that most deserve recognition for innovation. The event is organized by the Department for the Economic Promotion of Fribourg, a subsidiary of the Department for Economy, Transport and Engergy. Any firm in the canton can submit an entry, which is sifted to a short list of five and finally judged by a panel of 12 jurors drawn from various backgrounds. This year there were 27 applications.
The final judging and the announcement of the winners took place at Fribourg's College of Engineering and Architecture, with over 200 people present.
Vibro-Meter's submission covered the development of a new dynamic pressure transducer, suitable for several key applications including industrial gas turbine and space rocket launcher monitoring. Gas turbines are employed as prime movers in many industries such as oil and gas extraction and processing, pipelines and chemicals, and are increasingly used for power generation. Economic and legislative pressures demand ever improved efficiency with reduced harmful emissions. The new transducer from Vibro-Meter helps the manufacturers and operators of gas turbines to get the best from their machinery in a smaller, lighter package than previous designs.
Vibro-Meter received the Prize for Innovation, and a very new firm, MagiXys (founded in December 2000), received the Special ZPrize from the jury for their unique telecommunications testing technology.
The total prize money is CHF 20,000 (Euro 13,840), of which 15,000 went to Vibro-Meter and 5,000 to MagiXys.
