Vibro-Meter, Inc. Achieves ISO 9001:2000 (AS9100A) On First Attempt
After ten months hard work, January 2003 saw Vibro-Meter achieve the aerospace-oriented version of ISO 9001:2000 (AS9100A) on the first attempt. The accreditation was spearheaded by VMI's nine-strong pre-audit team drawn from a range of disciplines including purchasing, engineering, and quality. They all worked together to eliminate areas of non-conformance before the formal, external audit of the company's quality management system.
Over three days, external ISO auditors, TÜV Essen, interviewed 20 people across the company on how they went about doing their jobs and tested their understanding of quality systems. According to Alex Akore, the quality systems engineer who helps VMI creat customer-oriented quality system, the auditors congratulated Vibro-Meter in particular on the experience of its people. Says Mr. Akore, "they said that we really knew what we were doing. None of us were lacking information and responsiveness to customer demand was exemplary."
ISO certification is an achievement and getting it the first time is rare. Mr. Akore observes: "Some organizations have been known to fail several times. For us, there was no non-conformance -- no problems found. VMI people are dedicated to their work and are fixed on maintaining standards above that of the competition."
