Radiation Pyrometer
The Radiation Pyrometer is a non-intrusive sensor to directly measure the turbine blade temperature within a gas turbine engine. Vibro-Meter's Radiation Pyrometer is qualified and in service on the EJ200 engine for the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The Radiation Pyrometer consists of three main sections:
- The head assembly is mounted into the engine casing, and incorporates a patented purge air system to maintain lens cleanliness. This receives the infrared (IR) radiation given off by the rotating turbine blades.
- The fibre optic bundle is made from nuclear-hard glass fibres and encased in a convoluted tube with protective stainless steel over-braid, and transmits the IR signal to the electronics assembly.
- The electronics assembly converts the Ir signal into two electrical signals which are amplified, temperature compensated, and fed directly into the DECU or FADEC.
- The unit is light-weight, highly accurate, and highly reliable
- Accurate to ±4°C at 950°C (±75°F at 1740°F)
- Measures blade temperature from 600°C to 1100°C (1110°F to 2010°F)
- Removable shroud for quick lens inspection
- Mass less than 1.2 Kg (3 lbs)
